Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Liu developed an interest in dentistry when she suffered a traumatic dental injury after falling off her scooter in college. As a result of this accident, she spent a lot of time in the dental chair to fix the damage to her teeth and jaw. She then decided to choose dentistry as her career to help others achieve the highest level of dental care and also help those with suffer dental trauma like herself. It is Dr. Liu’s unique perspective and extensive patient experience which gives her a deep appreciation for oral health. Hence, she is very empathetic and compassionate towards her patients’ needs. She feels incredibly fortunate that her smile was eventually restore and wishes to do the same for others.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Kathy Liu obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and at the top of her dental school class. She was also the recipient of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists’ Predoctoral Student Award of her graduating class. Following dental school, Dr. Liu pursued a general practice residency at the Pittsburgh VA and received advanced training in endodontic therapy (root canals), oral maxillofacial surgery, and implant dentistry. Dr. Liu stays up to date with the latest dental technologies to provide her patients the highest level of care. She believes dentistry requires lifelong learning and is working towards her Academy of General Dentistry Fellowship which requires 500 hours of continuing education.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

When she is not caring for her patients, Dr. Liu enjoys rock climbing, traveling, and trying new restaurants. She also loves to play board games and escape rooms with her family and friends and enjoys the challenge of solving puzzles/mysteries.
